First we had Peter Eastgate selling his 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event winner’s bracelet to raise money for charity, then we had Paul “Eskimo” Clark selling a WSOP bracelet he won to raise money for his own bankroll. Now we have Vanessa Rousso selling her Lamborghini Gallardo, which can be yours for just $126,500!
Rousso, known in online circles as “LadyMaverick,” bought the iconic supercar last year after a run of superb results, both online and in the live arena, which saw her net around $2,000,000 in profits. When she purchased the car, she admitted that it was her dream vehicle and that she had made the decision to own one when she was just 16 years old and that it was the right time in her life to enjoy such a spectacular car.
Far from just a pretty face, Rousso has a major in economics and a minor in political science and was in the top 5% of students when she started her law degree, which she dropped out of when she decided to pursue a full time poker career. Her intelligence shone through when she purchased the car, as she revealed she could have afforded to buy the car brand new but after researching Lamborghini prices, she discovered that they depreciate heavily in their first two years so she opted for a 2007 model, which will have already suffered this.
She also said that she planned to sell the car after a year’s ownership as she knew she could sell if for around the same price that she initially paid for it, essentially giving her a year’s luxury car ownership for free! This statement looks very close to the truth as Rousso paid a rumoured $140,000 for the bright yellow Gallardo and the asking price on eBay is currently $126,500.
Rousso has some most excellent results on her resume, including her breakthrough live cash of $263,625, which she won for coming seventh in the 2006 Five Star Poker Classic, a result she followed up with an outright victory in the 2006 Borgata Open for another $285,450. More recently she finished second in the 2009 NBC Heads-Up National for a cool $250,000 and then a month later she won the €25,000 High Roller Event at the EPT Grand Final for €570,000, a career best live tournament win. Sandwiched between all of this was he runner-up finish in a WCOOP online main event that netted her just over $700,000! At present, Rousso’s live tournament winnings stand at $2,639,991.
The Lamborghini Gallardo is one of the Italian car maker’s most powerful production cars ever. Sporting a five litre engine that produces over 500 horse power, the Gallardo has a top speed in excess of 200mph and a 0-62mph time of under four seconds.

A total of 438 players parted company with $10,300 to take part in this prestigious World Poker Tour stop, creating a prizepool of $4,248,600, shared amongst the top 100 finishers. Paying the top 23% of the field had drawn some criticism from the players but you will not hear any of the surviving six final table member complaining, as each is now guaranteed to walk away with no less than $126,693 for their efforts.
Fifteen players returned to the felt yesterday with a number well-known and respected online players amongst them, although Amit “amak316” Makhija (13th place), Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi (9th) and Andrew “Lucky Chewy” Lichtenberger (8th) fell short of a World Poker Tour final table appearance.
The final table is still going to be a star-studded affair, in fact it is possibly one of the toughest final tables ever assembled in the history of the WPT. The six members who return to the Bellagio today at 1600 Las Vegas time, have one WPT title, three World Series of Poker bracelets and a staggering $19,267,673 in live tournament winnings between them!
The overnight chip leader with a huge 5,830,000 stack is Rousso, who finished seventh in this very event back in 2006. This cash is Rousso’s sixth in WPT Main Events but also represents her first final table. Second in chips as play begins is John Racener with a stack of 3,235,000 chips. Racener has the most tournament winnings of any player on this final table but the majority of his $6,809,519 winnings came from his fifth place finish at this year’s WSOP Main Event.
Narrowly behind Racener in chips, with 3,210,000 chips to do battle with is Andrew “good2cu” Robl, who is a high-stakes cash game pro that has started to play more live tournaments. The Las Vegas resident’s best score came from his recent third place finish in the £20,000 High Roller event at EPT London, which was worth £198,000 ($309,849) meaning he would need a third place or better her to better that.
Two WSOP bracelet winners are next in chips, Kirk Morrison starting in fourth place with 2,650,000 chips and Antonio Esfandiari on 2,105,000, the latter the only player at this final table with a WPT title to his name. Making up the sixth and final play is Ted Lawson, himself a WSOP bracelet winner but his 635,000 stack, worth around 10 big blinds, makes him the least likely to be adding a WPT title to his resume when play resumes today.

Although the World Poker Tour events have suffered from poor attendances for the past couple of seasons, this stop on the tour is always popular, even more so this year as the cost to enter was lowered from $15,400 to a more affordable $10,300. This saw an increase of 109 players to 438, though the biggest talking point was increasing the number of places paid from just 27 all the way up to the top 100 finishers. This somewhat diluted the top prize but I am sure Mr Esfandiari is not complaining now!
The six final tablists returned to the Bellagio at 1600 Las Vegas time, each guaranteed to walk away with no less than $126,693. It took just two hands for the first player to be eliminated, short stack Ted Lawson being that player. With blinds at 25,000/50,000/5,000a, the chip leader Vanessa Rousso bet 125,000 from under the gun and then quickly called when Lawson moved all in from middle position for a total of 615,000 chips. Lawson had made the move with a pair of black nines and was in a lot of trouble against the pocket queens of Rousso. That all changed as he flopped a set on a flop reading Js-9d-2c but the turn was the Qs, leaving Lawson drawing to the case nine. It did not appear though as the Kh peeled off on the river to bust Lawson in sixth place.
Almost three hours past before the table lost another player, this time WSOP bracelet winner Kirk Morrison being the player heading to the rail. On hand #47, John Racener opened to 225,000 from the cutoff, Morrison called on the button, as did Andrew Robl in the small blind. On a flop reading Ah-Th-5c, Robl checked, as did Racener but Morrison fired a bet of 225,000 chips. Robl, rather quickly, check-raised to 550,000 and when Racener folded Morrison made the call. The turn was the 9s and after a few moments Robl moved all-in, Morrison quickly called and showed AsJh for a pair of aces but he was drawing dead to Robl’s set of fives! The meaningless Ts gave Robl an unnecessary full house and send Morrison to the cashier’s desk to pick up his $168,924.
Four became three as Racener decided that Qc8c was good enough to move his 1,005,000 stack all in from under the gun with. His play was quite reasonable as he only had around ten big blinds left but he did not bank on Esfandiari waking up in the small blind with a dominating KcQh. Esfandiari’s lead was increased when the flop came down Kh-6c-3s and when the turn and river came the 7h and 8h respectively the table had lost half of its players!
Another 51 hands later and with blinds of 100,000/200,000/20,000a Miss Rousso, known as “Lady Maverick” online, found herself down to 1,950,000 chips. Looking down at Qh2h she announced she was all-in but knew she was in serious trouble when Esfandiari snap-called from the big blind. He turned over AcQs, making him more than a 72% favourite, and his hand held as the final board ran out 7d-6h-5c-3s-8s, sending the tie to heads up!
Both Esfandiari and Robl started the heads up encounter relatively even in chips, with “The Magician” trailing Robl by 9,500,000 to 8,155,000. The battle will make amazing television as the chip lead swung back and forth before Esfandiari really pressed home the advantage. Then on hand 181 of the final table the last and 58th hand of heads up took place. Esfandiari raised to 800,000, Robl quickly moved all in and Esfandiari called even quicker! Robl flipped over QdTc and needed to improve against the KcJd of his opponent. The Ad-Kd-6d flop gave Esfandiari a pair of kings but he would have to avoid a diamond on the turn and river if he was to win his second WPT title. He managed that on the turn as the 6c turned up and again on the river as the 5s made an appearance and with that, Robl was resigned to the runner-up spot, worth $549,003, whilst Esfandiari was lofted above his supporters, ecstatic that he had become a double WPT champion!
The next stop on the tour is the $10,000 Southern Poker Championship at the Beau Rivage casino in Biloxi, Mississippi.
